In Belgium, the university town of Leuven (Louvain) is well worth visiting. Brussels—the centre of the European Economic Community—is not all that impressive (what would you expect of a city full of bureaucrats). The other interesting place on the way towards Germany is the town of Aix la Chapelle (Aachen), right on the border with Germany.

One of the sights worth seeing in Brussels is The Atomium. This is a monument built for Expo '58—the 1958 World Fair held in Brussels.

The Atomium was designed by André Waterkeyn. Nine steel spheres are arranged to form the shape of a unit cell (which happens to be a body-centred-cubic lattice) of an iron crystal magnified a factor of 165 billion.

One thing you can say about the Belgians, though—they make great beer.
