Many times, a nice meal at a local restaurant is followed by a concert or other performing arts activity. The San Francisco Bay Area offers much variety, especially during the summer concert season.

Villa Montalvo and the Mountain Winery, both in Saratoga, put on a summer concert series. I've attended concerts by Manhattan Transfer, Spyro Gyra, the British group Acoustic Alchemy, the French jazz violinist Jean Luc Ponty, the international group led by Strunz and Farah, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Al di Meola, and many others.

San Francisco tends more towards the highbrow activities, and there I've attended the Joffrey Ballet on many occasions, my favourite performance being their dance called Light Rain. An almost annual pilgrimage is to see and hear Chanticleer, a local and unique male voice choir.
